Retreats

We are entering an exciting time for all fellow Deer Runners. We are just 3 weeks away from our first official CDR Alumni Men's Retreat, and a little over 2 months away from the first CDR Alumni Women's Retreat. The Men's Retreat is February 5th and 6th and the Women's Retreat is March 25th-27th. While there will be some difference between the two retreats, most things will be the same. They will be a time of fellowship and worship, and time to remember what it was like to be a camper at CDR, and chance to grow closer to God, at a place that always seems to make that so easy. If you are on the fence about attending, I highly recommend that you commit to going. I promise you will not be disappointed. Men, if you know that you will be in attendance then you need to register as soon as possible. You can go to the Camp Deer Run to get more information about the retreat and can also register there. Women, you can click on this link here to learn more about your weekend and to also register. We are hoping for a large turnout for both of this weekends, and hopefully this will only be the first of many years of CDR Alumni Retreats. I will continue to write post to encourage everyone to attend, and to remind all about how great of a time they will be. If you have any questions just let me know.

Men's Retreat Registration

We are only one month away from our 2011 CDR Alumni Men's Retreat. I am hoping that many men will be attending this year. The retreat begins on Saturday February 5th, and ends Sunday morning the 6th. This weekend is for any former male Deer Runner who is at least 20 years old. The cost for the weekend is $25 and includes meals, activities and CDR t-shirt. The purpose for the retreat is to reunite each Deer Runner with his Camp experience and Camp friends in order that he may be encouraged and energized spiritually. This is going to be a lot of fun, and we will have a chance to hang out, but there is going to be a Camp-like schedule that allows for a chance to relieve Camp and what makes it so wonderful. I know that I have talked to several guys who are planning on attending, but Ty has only had one person register. It is very important for you to register for this retreat so that Ty can make the necessary plans for the weekend. Please click here and take a couple of minutes to fill out the registration. If you know of anyone who may be interested in attending this retreat, pass all of this information on to them, and encourage them to take part in what will be a wonderful weekend. If you have any questions you can email me at cdralumni@gmail.com, or Ty Ford at ty-cdr@peoplescom.net. I hope to see many of you there.

Happy New Year

Well, I hope that your 2011 is off to a wonderful start. If you have ever been on staff at Camp Deer Run, then you probably know the tradition of spending New Year's Eve at Camp. Last night was no different. There were around 30-40 young people at Camp and it was a good time just like always. I am not sure when the tradition of the summer staff coming to Camp for a New Year's celebration began, but I know that it has been happening for many, many years. It is a time for the previous summer's staff to come together and see each other, many for the first time since the past summer. It is also a night that people interested in working at Camp for the next summer to come out and find out a little about Camp and be around the people they may be working with at Camp.

The festivities of the night are always pretty laid back. People show up whenever they want, anywhere from 8:00-10:00. Everyone hangs out in the Mess Hall, eating, playing games, and just fellowshipping with good friends.
Last night had a new wrinkle added to it. When someone was going out for a walk around Camp, they saw a beaver right behind the Mess Hall. Not really sure what he was doing so far away from the swap, but his presence was one of the highlights of the night.
While everyone looked in amazement at this strange creature, someone decided it would be a great idea to put a leash on the beaver, much like a dog, and have him be our pet for the night. Here is a picture of Camp Director Ty Ford with said beaver on leash, with his hound dog that help him wrangle the beaver.
Just before midnight, everyone headed out to Hoche Ballfield to watch the annual Camp Deer Run New Year's Ever Fireworks Extravaganza.
After the fireworks are shot off, and everyone celebrates the new year, a night devo is led on Hoche Ballfield, much like Night Devo during the summer. I have spent probably 10 New Year's at Camp, and I can think of no better way to start off a new year than by singing praises to God underneath the stars surrounded by fellow believers. It really is a powerful time.

Like I said, hopefully your new year is off to a blessed start. I know God has many great things planned for 2011, and it is up to us to let him lead our lives how he sees best.
