Camp Deer Run. There are thousands of people all over the world who when they hear those three words, all kinds of wonderful thoughts and emotions fill their minds. For over 50 years, Camp Deer Run has been a place where children, teens, and young adults have gathered every summer inside the gates of camp to spend time away from the "real world", and be surrounded by God's creation in the Piney Woods of East Texas. The staff of college students work hard every summer to show the campers God's love, and how wonderful life can be when you let God be first in your life.
Camp is such a special place for so many people, and over the years people have contacted Camp expressing the way that their lives were impacted by Camp through the relationships that were made out there. Many thoughts have been put towards trying to give Camp Deer Run Alumni a way to interact with each other, with a way to be able contact long lost friends, and a way to catch up with what has happened at Camp since they left. This blog is a way of trying to provide a solution. There are many great ideas for what this blog can be.
There are going to be posts titled "Camp: Then and Now". These posts will show what Camp was like in the past, and how we do the same things today. It will be fun to see how the traditions of Camp have stayed the same over the years. We will also have posts up called "Alumni Spotlight". These are going to be about a person or family that has come through Camp, and will share with us about their life at Camp, and since. This is going to be a lot of fun as we catch up with people we haven't talked to in years. Ty Ford, the Director of Camp, will also post once a month to share his thoughts about Camp, and anything else he has on his mind. There are many different thoughts about where this blog can go, and we are sure that it will be a great success at filling a void that hasn't been met until now.
Camp Deer Run is a special place for so many people because of the friendships that were developed there. But Camp is a truly special place because of the relationships that are developed with God. The focus that is put on living a Christ-like life is the reason for Camp's success, and all the friendships developed at Camp are directly impacted by that focus.
We want this blog to be a success, and your imput is greatly appreciated. We ask that you please fill out this survey for our "Alumni Spotlight" posts, and for our own records. You can find this survey at this link
This is going to be a fun adventure to see how this blog can bring the Camp Deer Run closer to each other and we will be able reconnect and help each other grow closer to God.
